Summer savings at Alberta museums and sites
Through its participation in the Canada Strong Pass, Alberta’s government is once again helping families, youth and visitors enjoy summer experiences at a reasonable price with free and discounted admission to all provincial museums and historic sites. During the program period, general admission to Alberta museums and historic sites will be free for children and teens aged 17 and under and half-price for young adults aged 18-24. There’s also no limit on visits, so guests can return as often as they like during the program period, making it easier than ever to learn about Alberta’s history and culture.

Putting energy revenues back in your pocket
Beginning July 1, 2026, nearly 3.4 million Albertans will be eligible to receive $100 through the new Alberta Energy Rebate. The Energy Rebate will put tax dollars collected over recent months of elevated gas prices back in the hands of Albertans to help with the costs of fuel and other household needs. With this rebate, the government is delivering more savings with more flexibility, to meet the challenges families are facing today.

Edmonton’s newest fire station opens its bay doors to communities
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) invites residents to a behind-the-scenes look at the City of Edmonton’s newest fire station as part of the City’s ongoing summer fire station open houses. On Saturday, June 20, Blatchford Fire Station 8 will welcome residents for a free, family-friendly open house event between noon and 4 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet local firefighters and fire prevention officers, explore the fire trucks and equipment and learn important fire safety information.

City launches free sports equipment lockers at parks with Jumpstart Charities
The City of Edmonton and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities are making it easier for residents to get outside and stay active. This month, Edmonton became the first municipality in Alberta to offer free access to sports equipment lending stations, with 30 Equip Sports Lockers installed in parks across the city.

Strengthening support for caregivers
Effective April 1, 2026, foster, kinship and permanency caregivers received a two per cent rate increase to help cover day-to-day necessities like food, clothing and personal care. Caregiver referral incentives will be tripled to $1,500, starting June 16. Eligibility for the Refer-A-Foster Caregiver program is being expanded beyond current and former foster caregivers to include kinship and permanency caregivers, as well as non-profit organizations such as cultural associations, faith-based and community groups.

Stay safe and beat the heat at water stations this summer
Edmontonians can access clean, safe drinking water this summer at 29 temporary water stations across the city. The water station program operates each spring until September 30. This year, new locations have been added at Kinsmen Park, Whyte Ave, Millwoods Recreation Centre and SouthBark on 82 Ave. The summer water stations complement additional permanent water fountains located at various Edmonton libraries and recreation facilities.

Government of Canada introduces legislation to combat online harms, particularly those impacting children
Today, the Government of Canada introduced the Safe Social Media Act (Bill C-34), which would enact legislation to make online services responsible for addressing harmful content and creating a safer online space for all Canadians, especially children. The proposed legislation will create safety requirements for social media services and artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot services to provide strong protection against online harms. The legislation will ensure that services are accountable for the environments they design and operate by establishing a Digital Safety Commission of Canada to enforce the new legislation and ensure compliance.
